VIDEO: Guest Author Marc Tyler Nobleman Shares Secrets Of Comic Book Heroes For Read Across America Celebration

This year, as part of our annual Read Across America celebration of literacy, author Marc Tyler Nobleman visited our Cherry Hill campus where he presented an assembly for our students about the history and significance of comic book superheroes and the regular real-life people who first created them.

Our students were shocked to learn for example, that the character of Batman was not the sole invention of creator Bob Kane but rather a collaboration between Kane and an unheralded partner named Bill Finger. Finger was never given credit for co-creating Batman until after his death, when fans like Nobleman began to research and write about the mysterious unknown artist and author.

Mr. Nobleman also shared how comic books and superheroes have influenced his own life and inspired him to persevere in his own dream of becoming an author. To that end, Nobleman shared this advice with our students who may be aspiring writers themselves:

“To become a published writer, the advice is simple: start today. Not tomorrow. Don’t allow yourself even one day to stall.”

He also emphasized the importance of tenacity and dedication as tools for success, urging our students to keep pursuing their passion, even when it’s not easy to do so.

“If you love writing, you will make the time. If you make the time, you will get better. If you keep this up, you chances of being published are so much greater,” he added.

Mr. Nobleman’s presentation was part of our superhero-themed school-wide day of activities organized by our staff reading specialists with students engaging in a variety of fun and educational lesson plans designed to promote literacy and reading for pleasure.
