Superheroes Inspire Students at Cherry Hill Campus ESY Program

IMG_0077If you were to walk down the halls of Y.A.L.E. School Cherry Hill campus, you would see classroom doors decorated with pictures of heroes, comic book characters, and other crime-fighting role models. “Marvel at our super kids!” one door has displayed. Students and teachers alike are excited about this summer’s program theme: superheroes.

Many of the classroom lesson plans are shaped around this theme. This gives students the opportunity to learn by relating class subjects to the entertaining topic of superheroes. Several classes are connecting their lessons to the chosen theme with writing assignments. For example, some students compare and contrast fictional heroes with real-life heroes, while others learn how to style a 5-paragraph essay describing what kind of superhero they would like to be. The art classes shape their lesson plans to the theme by allowing students to create life-size paper cut outs of superheroes.

Through these lessons and projects during the summer, students at Y.A.L.E. School are certainly learning an invaluable lesson from the popular hero Batman: “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.”
