UPDATE: This event was previously scheduled to occur in February and has been moved to April.
Y.A.L.E. School presents a special evening workshop on the topic of transition to adult life for students with disabilities:
Planning For A Successful Life After High School: Supports and Services to Maximize Independence
Featuring special education and disability expert attorneys from the law firm of Hinkle, Fingles & Prior.
Parents of students ages 14–21 will learn how to identify, access and maximize government funded programs and services, including SSI and Medicaid, DDD services and DVRS services. Strategies for parents will also be presented that focus on beginning a proactive financial plan so that students are able to qualify for Medicaid/DDD starting at age 21. Additionally the conversation will examine transition preparation before students become eligible for DDD services, including access to full educational entitlement from ages 18 to 21. A brief question and answer session with the attorneys will follow the presentation.
As a convenience, registered parents and guardians will be given the opportunity to reserve one of twelve FREE 20-minute consultations with an attorney on the topic of transition to adulthood and accessing supports and services, which will be held concurrently during the course of the workshop. If you are interested in booking one of the private consultations, please indicate your preference when completing the online registration process below. Free private consultations are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis and are limited to two adult parents/guardians per session. After you register for a ticket to the workshop, a Y.A.L.E. School staff member will contact you via email if any consultations are available.
UPDATE: All free one-on-one consultation sessions with the attorneys have been booked. Guests without a ticket for a private consultation may have the opportunity for brief question and answer at the end of the group presentation.
