In June many of our students competed in the Special Olympics Summer Games held at The College of New Jersey located in Ewing Township. Although the opening ceremony was cancelled on Friday due to inclement weather, it did not dampen the spirit of our athletes.
Three of Y.A.L.E. Cherry Hill’s juniors, Collin D., Matthew D., and Joe N., brought home medals from these competitions! Collin won Gold in the 50 meter freestyle, silver in the 50 meter breaststroke and placed 5th in the 50 meter freestyle relay swimming events. Matthew won 3 golds in tennis: the singles, doubles and unified doubles events. Joe won Bronze in the 50 meter breaststroke, Gold in the 100 meter freestyle and placed 5th in the 50 meter freestyle relay events. This was a Nationals qualifying year. These athletes will receive an invitation to enter a lottery for a position on the National Team.
In 2014 the Nationals will be held in New Jersey at Rider University, Princeton University, The Hun School, Lawrenceville Prep, TCNJ, Mercer County Park, The Peddie School and Brunswick Zone. Athletes from all over the country will be competing in this huge event which will include 3,500 athletes, 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and 70,000 spectators!
Congratulations to our student athletes and good luck qualifying for Nationals!
