Y.A.L.E. continues to provide a skill development program designed to teach and reinforce social competency and the generalization of appropriate social skills. The format of skill development has changed for the better at Y.A.L.E.’s Cherry Hill, Williamstown and Northfield campuses. Students still learn social skills through clinician-guided skill development lessons once per week in the classroom. Now students will also participare in one class period per week of activity-based Social Practice Groups (or “clubs”) facilitated by our teaching staff. During this period, students engage in an area of common interest (Anime, LEGO, music), while practicing social skills learned in skill development classes. The goal of the Social Practice Groups is to help students generalize and use learned social skills to build and sustain relationships with their peers both in and outside of the school program.
